Patch-based Face Recognition under Plastic Surgery

Even though face recognition has been a widely explored area for last many decades, real time face recognition is still, a challenging issue due to variations in pose, illumination, occlusion, aging and expression. In addition, with advancement of technology in medical field variation in faces due to plastic surgery has also emerged as a new challenge to face recognition. Furthermore, compared to other challenges mentioned such as pose, illumination etc., the facial plastic surgery changes some of the facial features permanently making face recognition under plastic surgery even more complex problem. In this paper, we proposed a patch-based face recognition using k-NN classifier for plastic surgical faces. Experimentation is carried on IIIT-D plastic surgery face database for three different facial surgeries such as, Rhinoplasty, Blepharoplasty and Lip-augmentation to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach.
