Nickel Orthophosphate Ni3(PO4)2: New Conversion-type Anode Material for Lithium ion Batteries

New nickel orthophosphate conversion-type anode material Ni₃(PO₄)₂ was synthesized using solid-state chemistry and its electrochemical properties versus Li⁺/Li were studied. This phosphate was analyzed using X-ray diffraction and an orthophosphate phase was obtained with a monoclinic structural-type and P2₁/c space group. Ni₃(PO₄)₂ anode material exhibits a high discharge capacity during first cycle around 503 mAh g^-1 at C/5 current rate and over 0.5 - 3.0 V voltage range.
