Challenges and Solution on Supporting Sub-Second Restoration in Centralized SDN Control Architectures in L1 Optical Transport Networks

An architecture for SDN control of L1 (OTN) networks was presented that can achieve sub-second restoration · Maximizes the control functions delegated to an SDN controller · A simple embedded signaling protocol (LWAP) to handle the activation of a pre-planned recovery path · The LWAP protocol was kept small and simple to allow for fast performance and potential for interoperability · A similar architecture is possible to support L0 (WDM) networks.
