Precise Range and Doppler Estimation of Multi-Nonstationary Targets by LFM Pulse-Doppler Radars

Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) waveforms have high Doppler-shift endurance due to the relative wide modulation bandwidth. However, for Pulse-Doppler radars, the Doppler frequency shift from a nonstationary target causes range offset for matched filter detectors to detect the true target location. Applying two identical LFM waveforms pair with opposite slopes, the true location of the target can be recovered by that pair of waveforms. Nevertheless, in multiple-moving-object scenarios, it is obscure to choose the right detection pair for recovering the true target location. In this research, the behavior of Doppler shift compensation to a pair LFM waveforms has been studied and presents a multi-Doppler-shift-compensation (MDSC) scheme to find the correct detection pair to resolve the true target location and velocity. Comprehensive MDSC simulations covering velocity, distance, and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) variation between two targets are presented.
