The Transient Response Analysis of Interfacial Crack in Piezoelectric-Piezomagnetic Bi-Layered Composites by the Extended Finite Element Method

In this paper the dynamic responses of interfacial crack in piezoelectric-piezomagnetic (PE-PM) bi-layered composites under in-plane coupled electro-magneto-mechanical impact loadings are investigated by the extended finite element method (X-FEM). Based on the crack-tip asymptotic fields and singularities of interfacial crack in PE-PM layered composite structures, the novel and more suitable crack-tip enrichment functions are derived and implemented in the X-FEM. For the dynamic fracture analysis, the Newmark method is used for the time integration and the dynamic J-integral is evaluated as fracture parameter. To verify the validity of proposed scheme, the Sarma absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) are adopted to avoid the unphysical wave reflections at the artificially introduced boundaries in the X-FEM meshes and further simulate the interfacial cracks between infinitely long PE-PM bi-layered structure. In the numerical examples, the effects of time variable and structural geometries on the fracture behaviors are discussed in detail.
