Precise Assembling Of Individual Micro Chains Based On Acoustic Radiation

In this paper, we present an attractive acoustic assembling manipulation (AAM) methodology to efficiently and reproducibly assemble micro objects. The experimental system consists of a signal generator, a power amplifier, a acoustofluidic chip and an optical microscope. The acoustofluidic chip is fabricated through a typical micro-electromechanical system(MEMS) strategy. When a sinusoidal electrical signal is applied to the piezoelectric transducer of the acoustofluidic chip, a standing flexural vibration mode of the chip will be excited to generate a local acoustic radiation around the V type micro structures. Particles suspending in the liquid media will be trapped to the micro structures firstly and then be driven to assemble individual chains at the tips of such structures. This new acoustic assembling method solely relying on the localized radiation forces are capable of quick response, parallel manipulation and precise assembling with the synthetic micro particles. Such facile assembling method provides another compelling alternative for nano engineering communities to investigate the particle interactions and opens a new door for developing configurable nano robots.
