Optimal Integration of PV Generation in Distribution Systems

Proper allocation of distributed generation (DG) units integrated with a distribution system plays a significant role in system performance improvement. Voltage profile is one of the factors considered in determining the reliability and efficiency of operation of a power grid. This paper proposes a methodology for optimal placement by selecting candidate buses into which renewable generation, such as PV, is integrated in a distribution system with a high penetration level of solar energy based distributed generators (DG) with an objective function based on voltage profile. The voltage profile index discussed in this paper can be employed to test voltage sensitivity to load uncertainty and to determine optimal placement of distributed photovoltaic generation.
