Effects of Particle Diameter on Erosion Wear Characteristic of Deep-Sea Mining Pump

The wear characteristics of the deep-sea mining pump was investigated. The Euler-Lagrange coupling model, RNG k-ε turbulence model and Finnie wear model were used to simulate the solid-liquid two phase flow in the pump. The influence of particle size on the wear characteristics of hydraulic components was analyzed when the particle volume concentration was 5.14%. The results demonstrate that the wear rate of the impeller is faster than that of the diffuser. The wear rate of the shroud is the fastest, followed by the blade and the wear rate of the hub is the last. The particle size of 10mm is appropriate for this model, resulting in less wear. Comparing the simulation results with the experimental results, it is found that the simulation results of the pump external characteristics are consistent with the experimental results in the same condition, indicating the validity and correctness of the simulation model. Finally, suggestions about the design of deep-sea mining pump are put forward.
