Channel Characterization for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication in Urban Sloped Terrain

As one of the most important modes of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), a seamless low-latency and ultra-reliable vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication network is a crucial research direction. Therefore, it is of paramount significance to characterize the V2V channels in various realistic environments, including Line-of-Sight (LOS) and Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS). In this study, we reconstruct a 3D urban environment model of a realistic block, and conduct extensive ray-tracing simulations for Tx and Rx located on vehicles travelling on the sloped terrains. Based on the results, the path loss, shadow fading, and delay spread of the channel for each case are characterized, which guide the design and deployment of V2V communication systems.
