New Decoupled Control Technique for a Doubly-Fed Induction Generator Deployed in Offshore Wind Farms

This paper presents a new decoupled control technique for offshore wind farms utilized by doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) to improve the durability and reliability of the entire energy conversion system. The proposed method is developed to customize the grid and rotor side converters to adjust the voltage and power output individually. Since those converters are connected through a DC capacitor, the key feature of the proposed technique is to maintain the DC voltage across the capacitor regardless of the system conditions. Additionally, this method can be easily implemented into the conventional proportional-integral (PI) units to upgrade the existing controllers accordingly. The simulation results show the superiority of the proposed method compared to the conventional ones.
