Thermal-Aware QoS Management for Real-Time Databases

Real-time databases should efficient maintain the timeliness of user transactions and freshness of real-time data, while avoiding potential thermal problems. In this paper we propose a QoS management scheme for timeliness and freshness maintenance which takes thermal constraints into consideration. The scheme applies a feedback-based thermal control method to support the temperature set-point. Based on the control signal computed at each control instant, the scheme adapts the data and transaction quality judiciously using update version selection and admission control. Experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show that compared with the baseline scheme, the proposed scheme can satisfy the thermal requirements while achieve better quality of both data and transactions.
