FLC-SMC based DC-bus regulation for a stand-alone photovoltaic power system

The performance of a stand-alone photovoltaic system (SAPVS) is profoundly dependent on the DC-bus voltage. A good regulation of the DC-bus voltage leads to a good stable-working system. This paper uses two different types of controllers arranged in a cascade control loop, applied on a stand-alone photovoltaic system, that aid to regulate the DC-bus voltage facing severe load variation, and keep the SAPVS working effectively even during the lack of batteries. In the control loop, the master controller, which is based on the Fuzzy Logic concept (FLC), drives the set point of the slave controller that is based Sliding Mode (SMC) concept. To show the performance of the proposed control, a comparison is made with PI-SMC based control.
