Robustness of FDM-FDCP Modulation to Phase Noise in Millimeter Wave Systems

We propose a simple discrete phase noise model for millimeter wave channels and evaluate its impact on different modulation classes. In particular, we characterize the performance of both OFDM and FDM-FDCP degraded by the phase noise of our model. Our results show that FDM-FDCP outperforms OFDM under this phase noise model. The key characteristics of FDM-FDCP that mitigate degradation from phase noise are highlighted. Our results indicate that extending the length of the frequency-domain cyclic prefix in the FDM-FDCP waveform further mitigates the impact of phase noise.
