Design and Overall Performance Analysis of an Open End Slot Feed Miniature Microstrip Antenna for On-body Biomedical Applications

These days Antenna is in effect generally utilized as a part of biomedical applications. A compact open end slot feed microstrip antenna working in Industrial, Scientific and Medical radio (ISM) band at 2.45GHz is proposed for on-body communications which are not obtrusive but reasonable for bio-medical applications. The antenna consists of an open-end slot feed in order to reduce microstrip losses and inherent matching and defected ground structure in order to reduce mutual coupling effect. As a result, high gain (7.2dBi) and a wide impedance bandwidth (16% with a center frequency 2.45GHz) are achieved which remove all limitation of the previous work. The magnitude of return loss is found -46.64 dB at 2.45 GHz. The antenna overall performance is analyzed in a three-layer human phantom model. CST (Computer simulation Technology) Microwave Studio become used to design and simulates the antenna.
