Modern Tool Limitations in Design Automation: Advancing Automation in Design Tools is Gathering Momentum

From component modeling and schematic capture to circuit simulation and practical implementation, design tools have long played a crucial role in the design and development of power electronics converters and motor drive systems. As the switching speeds rise and power densities increase, the pressure to improve automation in these design tools is mounting. Modem integrated power systems need to solve multiphysics problems within a shorter design time, and require multivariable optimization to obtain higher efficiencies and more compact designs. As a result, design automation is bringing more integration to design tools for power electronics. In summary, according to Prof. Mantooth's presentation, the DAPE workshop signals three trends emerging in the tools arena for design automation. These include MBE V -diagram, digital twins, and multiobjective design optimization. While several versions of V -diagram were presented, the term digital twins was portrayed as a current and evolving practice. Furthermore, multiobjective optimization is a multidisciplinary hierarchical method that guarantees full utilization of design space.
