A Simple Gold-Coated Photonic Crystal Fiber Based Plasmonic Biosensor

In this paper, a simple gold-coated circular photonic crystal fiber (PCF) based surface plasmon resonance sensor (SPR) is numerically proposed. The proposed sensor is not very susceptible to the variation of structural parameters in the case of confirmation of sensing accuracy. Consequently, it minimizes the machining error. The sensing performance of this sensor is analyzed by the finite element method (FEM). A maximal wavelength sensitivity of 8000 nm/RIU can be realized with the refractive index of 1.38. The average wavelength sensitivity of 3142.9 nm/RIU and amplitude sensitivity of 80.29 RIU

in the range of 1.33-1.38. Moreover, the investigation shows that a maximal amplitude sensitivity of 198 RIU

and resolution of 1.25×10

RIU can also be achieved with the same RI. Owing to these characteristics of simple structure, linear characteristics and high sensitivity, the introduced device can be a potential candidate in the field of biological applications.
