Design and Characterization of Zeonex Based Porous-Core Terahertz Fiber with High Birefringence and Low Modal Loss

A unique material Zeonex deposited porous-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with ultrahigh birefringence, high core power fraction, a low modal loss is introduced for terahertz guiding at a guiding frequency of 0.70 THz. We use the finite element method (FEM) with perfectly matched layer boundary conditions to figure out the activity of the proposed fiber. Simulated results show that ultrahigh birefringence of 0.0559, minor confinement loss of 4.08×10

dB/cm, and moderate effective material loss (EML) of 0.0987 cm

can be obtained at 0.70 THz. Moreover, power transmission through the air core of 38.562%, effective area of 4.0×10

μm
²
are achieved for the y-polarized mode. We also represent the analysis of numerical aperture and dispersion which are very crucial to design an effective THz waveguide.
