Improving the Process for Distribution Network Optimization in Medium Voltage Level (11) kV by Developing Short Term Load Forecast Method

Al Ain Distribution Network is owned, operated and maintained by Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC), an affiliate of Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). AADC network covers an area about 12000 sq.km supplying more than 500,000 inhabitants with electricity and water in the Eastern Region of Abu Dhabi Emirate.The load growth of Al Ain area is increasing over the years which requires continuous assessment of the network load behavior under the maximum loading condition at the peak time of the year during summer season. That guides to optimal operational steps for load management by switching & allocating the normal open points (NOPs) at best locations to achieve network optimization. Further, it's required to highlight the weak points in the power network to prepare operational contingency plans to overcome any problems might be faced during the peak season. This overall process is built on providing close load expectation of the peak just few months before peak season.The paper will aim to improve the process for Distribution Network Optimization in medium voltage level (11) kV by setting mathematical methods in calculating the short term forecasted peak load for operational purposes to be ready to meet the peak season.
