Harmonic-recycling Rectifier Design for Localization and Power Tuning

This work introduces a new rectifier for wireless power transfer (WPT) with harmonic-recycling capability for enhanced functionality beyond RF-DC conversion. By taking advantages of nonlinearity of the diode, in the proposed rectifier circuits, the second harmonic is utilized for communication with the transmitter. It can be used as a feedback signal to the transmitter to (1) control the transmitting beam direction for maximum efficiency and (2) to determine the status of the attached load, whether the load is turned on. With the design of a multi-functional rectifier, it is possible to realize a close-loop system to achieve efficient WPT.
