Advantages of Cylindrical TLM Meshing for Circular Patch Antenna with Sectoral Slots

This paper demonstrates possibilities and advantages of the in-house cylindrical Transmission Line-Matrix solver for the purpose of modelling of coax-fed circular patch antennas that contain sectoral slots. The antenna is designed at FR4 substrate, and the slots are added to enhance the bandwidth. This paper's focus is on the methodology and meshing, and in that context it has been shown that in the considered case the cylindrical mesh requires considerably smaller number of cells compared to the corresponding rectangular one resulting in better efficiency. Moreover, it allows accurate modelling without approximation of narrow slots avoiding unwanted modes to be excited.
