An Optimum 2D Sparse Array Configuration with Reduced Mutual Coupling

This paper presents a novel 2D sparse array configuration which reduces mutual coupling effect. It can be realized to identify O(N
²
) uncorrelated sources for N physical sensors array by making difference co-array. However, the existence of the mutual coupling makes it difficult. The hourglass array can be regarded as a 2-D sparse array configuration robust to the effect of mutual coupling. We further try to reduce the effect of mutual coupling through the optimization by SA (Simulated Annealing). Performance of the proposed array is evaluated through computer simulation.
