Performance analysis of a three-phase photovoltaic generation system with active filtering functions connected to the electrical grid

Nowadays, the nonlinear loads are present in many residential and industrial applications, the increased use of such loads increases the impact of harmonics in electrical grid. It's depend of the load's type and number of phases used. The small power plants are designed to feed local loads and interact with the electrical grid, most of these loads are electronic or switching sources, which causes a non-linearity in the load current. This article makes the comparison of a Photovoltaic generation system with active filtering functions with a conventional photovoltaic system, and the differences between them are analyzed. The proposed system is divided into two stages: a Boost converter in order to track the maximum power point and a voltage source converter that connects the photovoltaic system to the three-phase electrical grid. The model and control are developed step by step for a good understanding. The simulations were performed using the Matlab/Simulink software. It's analyzed the total harmonic distortion of the electrical grid current and the active and reactive power profile for three different loads. These simulations result shown the harmonic filtering capacity of the proposed PV system.
