Modelling and Simulation of Closed Loop Buck Converter to Supply Constant DC Load for Single Solar PV Panel

Buck converter is one of the power electronics circuits used as voltage lowering regulator. This paper addresses the modeling and simulation of buck converter to supply a low power dc load based on standalone of solar power system without using the battery. Modeling includes the characteristics of a single solar PV panel as input voltages that tend to vary due to the influence of irradiation and temperature. The converter was equipped by closed loop PI controller based on voltage control mode to keep the output voltage constant of 12 Volt. Modeling was performed and simulated using PSIM. The results show that in the irradiation variation 600-1500 W/m

generate the PV voltage of 12.1 - 18.9 Volt as the input voltage. From its input, the buck converter was able to maintain the output voltage of 12 Volt with an error of ±0.83 %.
