Abstract:
A portable arc welder with an internal LiFePO4 battery was developed and it is introduced in this paper. Used DC/DC step-down converter with synchronous rectifier (MOS-FET transistor instead of the free-wheel diode) is described. Also the battery pack dimensioning and its thermal design are included. The BMS (battery monitoring system) circuits and charger circuits are proposed too. Some theoretical and practical facts regarding the control strategy of the converter are mentioned.
