Trustworthiness of Citizen Journalists Videos from the Perspective of Archival Science

Citizen journalists' videos are an influential medium that provides communities with the opportunity to capture and document a different view on world events. The absence of meta-data, huge quantities, and idiosyncratic qualities of citizen journalists' videos hinder their capacity to be a trustworthy reference to institutions, and the public. This paper examines citizen journalists' videos captured during politically charged events and uploaded to video sharing websites from the archival science and diplomatics perspectives, seeking to understand the challenges facing establishing trustworthiness with this medium. This examination will be achieved by presenting the elements, characteristics, and measures of trustworthiness of an archival record and the way they are present or absent in citizen journalists' video records. The aim of this examination is to better understand challenges related to the establishment of trustworthiness with citizen journalists' videos.
