Abstract:

An equal beamwidth and low sidelobe mm-Wave horn antenna is presented in this article. The design is based on Pickett-Potter conical dual mode horn antenna. Instead of using a circular feed waveguide, as is commonly used in Pickett-Potter horn design, a rectangular waveguide is used to feed the conical horn antenna. The height of rectangular waveguide section and radius of the step discontinuity at horn throat are optimized accordingly. Fabricated antenna is measured for radiation patterns together with a specifically designed teflon based radome. Measured results show equal beamwidth with low sidelobes in both E- and H-planes from 35 GHz to 36 GHz. Good agreement between the measured and simulated radiation patterns validates the design process.
