Cooperative IoT Network for Environment and Cost Friendly Transportation

Cooperative and situation-aware public transportation systems can save time and effort, increase level of security and reliability, reduce fossil consumption and decrease the high pollution resultant from emission rates like CO2. Given the population increase, many problems appeared, such as parking difficulties, traffic congestion, increasing number of road accidents and energy consumption. Recently, The Internet of Things (IOT) brought significant opportunities to transportation systems. Researches expect IOT to contribute in decreasing or even eliminating such chronic problems. This paper integrates public IOT device's real-time feedback with the public transportation management systems to optimize vehicle size and route presenting a cost and environment friendly transportation management system. Further, the system uses the available information to avoid congestion, accident detection, and driver behavior evaluation. Results showed that integrating such information into transportation management systems presents a valuable asset with huge impact on the induced level of emission and the overall cost of transportation.
