Investigation on Balanced Double-Sided Gap Waveguide for W-Band Applications

In this paper, a double-sided gap waveguide (DSGWG) working at W-band has been proposed. For the conventional double-sided parallel strip line (DSPSL), its performance is deteriorated by the losses at W -band. Based on the newly proposed half-height pins structure, the DSGWG has been investigated. For this new DSGWG, there is no dielectric loss compared to DSPSL since waves propagate in the air-filled gap. In addition, the spurious radiation has been suppressed by the half height pins. This DSGWG has achieved the good transmission performance at W -band. The characteristics impedance of offset DSGWG has been investigated. It shows that the offset DSGWG can realize a relatively high impedance without change the line width. Furthermore, the DSGWG with an inserted conductor plane is researched as well. The inserted conductor can function as a virtual ground (GND) to isolate different circuits on the top and bottom layers. Based on those characteristics, some results based on offset structure and dual band structure have been given to verify the DSGWG's performance.
