Radiation Pattern of a Monopole Antenna on an Electrically Large Conducting Convex Surface

Asymptotic solutions based on the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD) are well developed and efficient for radiation, mutual coupling and scattering problems associated with electrically large conducting convex surfaces. However, these solutions are available for infinitesimal sources. In this paper, it is proposed to predict the radiation pattern of a monopole antenna on a conducting convex surface using the extended UTD solution for radiation by sources on or close to the surface. The product of a sinusoidal current distribution and the UTD based electric field is integrated along a monopole antenna to compute its radiation pattern. The UTD result for the radiation pattern of a monopole antenna on a circular cylinder is validated compared to the result based on the multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM).
