S2a/S2b Tunnel Establishment

This chapter describes procedure for establishing the S2a tunnel and S2b tunnel. It also discusses Proxy Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (PMIPv6) mechanism during tunnel establishment. The PMIPv6 mechanism allows a mobile host to keep its original IPv6 address, to maintain its current session or to be reachable when moving, mobility being provided by the network. The procedure for setting the S2a bearer resumes that described for the PMIPv6 mechanism with the few modifications. The mobile node is a host that changes network while retaining the home address (HoA) of its home network. The foreign agent (FA) is the entity of the network visited by the mobile node. Registration allows the mobile node to communicate its care‐of address (CoA) to the home agent (HA). The HA and FA functions are hosted, respectively, by the PGW entity and trusted Wireless fidelity (Wi‐Fi) access.
