Effect of Electropolishing on The Uniformity and Distribution of Nanopores of Anodic Aluminium Oxide Template

Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) has been synthesized through anodization method. The effect of electropolishing on the growth of AAO template has been investigated. The surface roughness was measured by AFM. While the surface morphology and cross-sectional image were observed by FESEM. The statistical analysis was done using image J2 software to determine the pore diameter and pore distribution. The polished surface exhibited lower surface roughness of 4.42 nm compared to unpolished surface (16.45 nm). Formation of nanopores on top of polished surface was found to have higher uniformity. Apparently, good pore ordering was obtained for polished surface which resulted in high uniformity and welldistribution of nanopores at the bottom of AAO template. Polished surface also exhibited smaller standard deviation diameter of pores compared to unpolished surface.
