The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is responsible for the safety, security, and stewardship of the nation's waters. It is also a member of the intelligence community and an armed force, responsible for the defense of our country. One of the eleven statutory missions of the Coast Guard is Ice Operations, performing icebreaking both domestically on the Great Lakes and the Northeastern harbors and rivers, but also in the Polar Regions.
