Active Temperature Control for Deep-Sea Samples Using Liquid Nitrogen

An active temperature control system was designed for deep-sea samples during retrievals of underwater vehicles. This device is equipped with a sampling basket for underwater vehicles. Using liquid nitrogen makes controlling sample temperatures cheaper and lowers electricity use. Some deep-sea samples including microorganisms will survive upon retrieval. In this study, we calculated a thermodynamic conduction model of liquid nitrogen passing through a coiling tube and tested the effects of liquid nitrogen refrigeration. The active control temperature tests successfully proved the feasibility of this design.
