Railway Turnout Fault Analysis Based on Monitoring Data of Point Machines

Turnout systems on railways are crucial to safety protection and efficiency improvement. Statistics show that turnout system faults account for the highest ratio of the total signal system faults. Therefore, many railway sections have installed the MMS (Microcomputer Monitoring System) to keep the condition of turnout systems under monitoring. In this paper, we present a fault mode analysis method based on monitoring data of point machines collected by MMS. Data features are used to identify the common types of fault and create a fault feature logic diagram for fault diagnosis. In addition, this paper also proposes an FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) based method for fault causation analysis. The important degrees of different causes are calculated to find the most likely cause and help improve the efficiency of maintenance work.
