Using the Effect of Superconductivity and Superconducting Materials to Limit Short-Circuit Currents

The article is devoted to the investigation of the limitation of short-circuit currents using the effect of superconductivity. The article gives definitions of the main terminology, such as short circuit, short-circuit current. Further, the causes of the closure are revealed. The shortcomings and consequences of the occurrence of a short-circuit current are indicated. The presence of these shortcomings requires the creation of new types of devices that limit the short-circuit current. In recent decades, various types of superconducting current limiters have been proposed. Preferred are traditional current limiting devices because of their higher performance, they have nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics and a number of other advantages. The superconducting current limiter, in a different design version, finds more use in tasks to limit short-circuit currents. However, the efficiency of the use of these devices in the electric power sector has not been fully studied. Superconductivity is a property that is manifested in some materials as a sharp drop in electrical resistance up to zero at temperatures below a certain value. The scientific significance of the widespread use of the phenomenon of superconductivity is obvious. The article outlines the reasons for the expediency of using superconducting current limiters for solving various kinds of problems.
