Modeling of PEV charging load based on trip chain theory and the impact of PEV on distribution networks

With the popularization of PEV, it has been the critical load of smart the grid. The modeling of PEV charging load is the basis of the estimation of its impact on distribution networks. This paper proposes a detailed model to analyze the driving characteristics both in time and space of PEV based on the concept of trip chain and the utilization of Monte Carlo Simulation Method. Taking the difference in charging behaviors into consideration, three charging scenarios are generated and then charging load profiles are obtained. Based on the above study, the impact of PEV on multi-level distribution networks is estimated. The results show that it will cause the largest load demand if PEVs charge at home every day after the last trip, especially on a weekday. In addition, it's recommended that the charging load connects to the front of the feeder, which leads to less voltage drop. This study can accurately describe the temporal-spatial characteristics of charging load and comprehensively analyze its impact on distribution networks, which is instructive for the planning of future power grid.
