Rounded Corner Effect on Write Performance for Shingled Magnetic Recording System

The shingled magnetic recording (SMR) with exchange coupled composite (ECC) media is a feasible method to achieve the areal density of multi-Tera-bit/in

. However, a rounded corner is inevitable because of deviation from the fabrication process of shingled writer. This paper investigated the influence of rounded corner effect on write performance for SMR, and the analysis suggests that an optimized structure of rounded corner could increase write field gradient and decrease stray field to avoid adjacent track encroachment.
