High Frequency Dynamics of a HDD in a Storage Server: Airborne Vibration Transmission and PES Simulations

High Frequency vibration caused by cooling fans in a storage server often degrades I/O performance of HDDs. We have experimentally clarified airborne vibration from the fans is the dominant cause of PES degradation. And, we conducted conventional PES simulations using a surrogate drive. Through a comparison analysis between the simulation and measurement results, we have shown the availability and limitation of the conventional simulation method.
