Strategic Manipulation in Multiple Attribute Decision Making with Interval Evaluation

Strategic manipulation or non-cooperative behavior means that decision makers will make dishonest decisions or changes their decision according to their own interests. In this paper, strategic manipulation is applied to multiple attribute decision making (MADM), in which decision makers can manipulate ranking results through attribute weights. In view of uncertainty evaluations in decision making, the alternative evaluations are assumed to be represented in interval values, and a final decision result can be obtained by aggregating the interval evaluations of alternatives under different attribute weights. Firstly, a model is established to estimate the ranking of all alternatives, and a strategic manipulation model is further established to obtain the desired ranking by manipulating attribute weights. The proposed method can better conform to the actual situation by considering the uncertainty. Finally, the method is applied to the university ranking to obtain the desired ranking results and help decision makers choose the attribute weights according to their desired ranking of universities. Numerical simulation also verifies the effectiveness and rationality of the proposed method.
