Linear Cellularization Enabling Millimeter-Wave Train Radio Communication Systems in 5G Era

To meet the growing demands of larger capacity and quality of experience (QoE) satisfaction in in-transport wireless communications, in this paper the authors propose all-weather mm-wave train radio communication systems based on linear cell concept. Key enablers for the proposed linear-cellularized mm-wave train radio communication systems are: (i) narrow-beamwidth antenna for longer communication distance, (ii) antenna diversity for stability of communication link, (iii) linearly-distributed antenna system for virtually long linear cell, and (iv) timing and power adjustment approach among distributed antennas for interference coordination enabling just two reuse frequencies. Through the discussion in the paper, the authors reveal the significance of the above strategies. They surely contribute to realization of mm-wave train radio communication systems in 5G era.
