Performance Analysis of PMSG Wind Turbine at Variable Wind Speed

In recent wind energy application PMSG (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator) is largely used. This paper reflects about the performance of PMSG Wind Turbine (WT) at constant and variable wind speed. WT is classified on the basis of type of operation i.e. full variable speed operations, semi variable speed operation and fixed speed operation. Squirrel Cage Induction Motor, PMSG, Wound Rotor Synchronous Generator and HTS-SG (High Temperature Superconducting Synchronous Generator) all these found application in Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS). Among all these PMSG is most popular and dominating in market share. PMSG is more popular in full speed variable operation WECS. In this paper, with the help of MATLAB / Simulink model of PMSG WT, a performance analysis at constant and variable wind speed is done.
