How Does Antibacterial Photodynamic Therapy Affect Healthy Human Keratinocyte Cells?

Rapid increase in antibiotic resistance and the inadequacy of other antibacterial treatments are serious risk factors for human and animal health worldwide. Researchers have begun to focus on photodynamic therapy (PDT) as an alternative treatment. This treatment is based on the killing of pathogens by the formation of toxic products after the interaction of light with light-sensitive drugs (photosensitizer) and oxygen. It is also important to emphasize how antibacterial photodynamic therapy affects healthy cells which play an important role in wound healing process. In this regard, the previously proven antibacterial effect of indocyanine green and 808-nm on healthy human keratinocyte cells was investigated in this study. The main objective of this research is to determine the concentrations of indocyanine green and the energy dose of laser light which are destructive to certain pathogens and not harmful to healthykeratinocytes. energy dose did not damage keratinocyte cells significantly. The concentration of 150 μg/ml ICG killed the cells in all applications. Application of 252 J / cm

energy dose damaged keratinocyte cells with all ICG concentrations.
