PiScanner: Economical User-driven Context based OCR Translator

Education is the most important medium in terms of raising awareness levels of individual, society and country as a whole. However, for under-developed and developing countries, language diversity from international community is posing an important hurdle in their progress. It has been well-established that every individual's best intellectual ability is reflected through his/her mother tongue. So, to bridge the gap of global advancements and to capture research essence of international dominion comprehendible to various native languages, this paper proposes an approach of context-based translation, and unifying it with OCR-scanning function in a simplified architecture. The proposed architecture is further developed as PiScanner for economical and convenient OCR-scanning with context-based translation functionality and new language support, which is rarely available. PiScanner's architecture additionally supports text-to-speech conversion, with Google's text-to-speech APls, to provide audio output of context-based translated text for visually-challenged individuals. PiScanner has been thoroughly experimented to demonstrate its applicability.
