Mobile Graphical User Interface with People with Verbal Communication Disorders

This paper describes the approach and decisions made towards building an accessible user interface for users with verbal and written communication disorders, coupled with intellectual deficiencies or conditions like Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and presents the design of the user interface (IU) of TESI Tool, an adaptive and easy-to-use software solution that aims to enrich their personal expression opportunities. The requirements are extracted from both existing research on designing accessible software and from the feedback of pedagogical professionals. The findings are applied in practice to create the user interface of TESI Tool. Illustrations of key screens of the user interface are presented. It is implied that the features of the UI of TESI tool can be successfully applied to improving overall accessibility of graphical user interface for people with other perception and expression deficiencies.
