Valuation of the Effect of Barium on Surface Roughness and Ultrafine Particle Emission While Dry Milling Al-20Mg2Si Metal Matrix composite

Surface roughness is an important output in manufacturing processes. It has effect on the performance of mechanical components and the fabrication cost. In this research work, an experimental investigation was conducted to determine the effects of cutting condition on surface roughness and particle emission while milling Al-20Mg
₂
Si metal matrix composite and Ba-containing composite. The results show that the addition of Ba into the melt improved surface roughness during machining process. It is also found that dust emission decreased with the addition of Ba as modifier element.
