A Development of Electronic Speed Control (ESC) for PMSMs Driving used in Drone

This paper presents a development of electric speed control (ESC) in PMSMs for drone. Recently developed drones are limited in size, volume and cost. As a result, it is being developed as an all-in-one type consisting of a propeller, an electric motor and an ESC. Such drone PMSMs are designed to have high efficiency, high density, ease of control, and high rotation speed. Also, to reduce the volume and weight of the drone, there is no sensor to measure the speed. So ESC needs sensorless control. And ESC development needs to implement functions such as high efficiency, fast response characteristics, and fault diagnosis. In this paper, sensorless control using Slide mode observer (SMO) for fast response characteristics and fault diagnosis algorithm using motor temperature are applied [1].
