Loss Minimization for Distributed PV Integration using Particle Swarm Optimization with Volt-Var Control

The integration of renewable energy resources into electric power distribution networks can cause major control problems, if not planned properly. In this paper, Volt-Var control (VVC) has been implemented to reduce voltage fluctuation resulting from high Photovoltaic (PV) penetration. The effect of VVC on system active losses is also investigated. Additionally, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been used to minimize system losses while maintaining bus voltages within permissible limits in different test distribution systems.
