MATLAB Program for Dielectric Lens Antenna Shaping

In the next generation mobile system (5G mobile), a new frequency range of millimeter wave is planned. For a base station antenna, a dielectric lens antenna becomes a promising candidate because of the simplicity of the structure and ease of installation to a base station. In practical application, special radiation pattern such as low sidelobe, high gain and multibeam are expected. This paper describes the method of designing the dielectric lens antenna shaping method for low sidelobe and high gain by a MATLAB program based on ray tracing method. The MATLAB program solves three differential equations based on Snell's Law and Energy Conservation Law. Accuracy of a program is ensured through comparing designed results with theoretical results. Moreover, the suitable antenna parameters for base station configurations are correspondingly clarified.
