An improved fast self-healing feeder automation system

In order to improve the reliability and intelligence of the distributed intelligent feeder automation system with fast self-healing performance, this paper summed up a fault allocation, isolation and restoration principle which adaptive to the open-loop distribution system and closed-loop distribution system. Firstly, the intelligent switch with the fault current which in the allocated fault area should be tripped quickly. Then, three-phase once auto-reclosing will be started, if the transient fault happened in the transmission line, the switch will be reclosed successfully and the distribution network recovered; otherwise the switch will not be reclosed and send the “trip order” message to the neighbor switch which in the allocated fault area, this method can distinguish between transient fault and permanent fault, and reduce the action times of the switch by any possibility. At last, examples are given to illustrate this improved distributed intelligent feeder automation system. It is shown that meaningful fault allocation is achieved even in the case of uncertain fault diagnosis of distribution grids.
