Day-ahead operation planning for microgrids embedding Battery Energy Storage Systems. A case study on the PrInCE Lab microgrid

This paper deals with the day-ahead operation planning strategy aimed at optimally dispatch a microgrid embedding a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The proposed Economic Dispatch method has been solved by implementing the classical conditions of Karush-Kuhn-Tucker. Particular attention has been paid on the role of the BESS by adopting a general cost function aimed at minimizing its power converter losses while maximizing its life duration. Moreover, in order to always preserve the availability of the BESS during the daily cycle, an integral constraint has been adopted for the State-Of-Charge (SOC). The derived algorithm has been tested on the PrInCE experimental microgrid located at the Polytechnic University of Bari.
